Sickness..........

1st week in Oct Brittney got sick, she had the tropical cold like symptoms but her voice got hoarse and her throat was really bothering her.
The next week Luke got it. I picked him up from school and he told me that he hadn't felt good all day, I felt him and he had a fever. Poor guy, I don't know why he didn't tell his teacher. He came home and got a blanket (mind you it was 95 degrees that day) and laid on the couch, UNTIL the Motrin kicked in, then he was up, doing his homework and then outside he went.

Blake cuddled with his sick brother

He was fine in the morning, so off to school he went, just to repeat the same thing after school, even after I told him over and over if he didn't feel good to tell his teacher. This went on for 4 days and on day 4 he woke up with a horrible deep, (sounds like a seal asking for food cough). He had a big night that night. His hockey team did a fundraiser at the Ontario Reign opening night game, its called chuck a puck. The kids sell a blue puck with a number on it for $2.00 and after the 2nd period you take your puck and throw it onto the ice. They have different areas that designate certain prizes. Well after Motrin and him begging to go we decided to give it a try and he was fine all night.

I Started him on his steroids (we keep those on hand for his asthma) that day and he was so much better the next day!
4 short days later Blake woke up with a tiny deep cough. Here we go again, 3rd kid sick in 3 weeks. After his nap he was worse and had a fever but still ok. He went to bed as usual and at midnight he woke up and from there we were up the rest of the night. He was having trouble breathing, he had all the symptoms of croup, so I followed all the "what to do's" we rotated from the steamy hot bathroom, to his room with the cool mist humidifier all night. I called the Dr first thing in the morning and got him an appointment. We were almost there and he coughed and chocked which made him vomit all over himself.
We arrived at the Dr.'s with a very sick little boy who had vomit all over himself (I don't carry a change of clothes for him anymore and for the record I cleaned him up with a ton of baby wipes).

He had a temp of 102.8 and that was an hour after Tylenol. Dr knew as soon as she heard him cough he had croup. She watched his breathing for about 10 minutes, examed him and sent me over for xrays.
Us waiting for x-rays

She ordered them STAT and called me when she got the report and told me she wanted me to take him to the E.R. she said they can give him what they call a loader dose of steroids and a breathing treatment of epinephrine (adrenalin).  So off we went.  We pretty much got right in, they checked his vitals and got us in a room in no time. They gave him the loader dose of steroids and did the breathing treatment and monitored him for about 45 mins and they got us out of there.

He is on 5 days of steroids here at home and I cant wait until he is done, they are making him so moody! All other symptoms are pretty much gone, he has a little bit of a cough, but really only coughs about 15 times a day!
Out of the 17 (almost 18 yrs) of being a mom I have never had a child that sick that scared me so bad (even with Luke having asthma). Him gasping for breaths and looking at me with such fear was the worst feeling EVER!
Kyle woke up this morning with a little stuffy nose, I am praying its not his turn this week!

Birthday

Oct 8 Denise turned 36. Is that still Mid 30's or does that move her to "late" 30's?

She spent the day shopping and getting her nails and toes done, then we headed out to dinner with some friends. We usually go to Sushi, but since that landed her in the hospital last time, we decided Lucille's BBQ sounded better!
We had a fun night with the friends who made it! My good friend Jenn made me my favorite cupcakes Yellow cake chocolate frosting! YUMMY!! They thought it would be funny to switch the candles to 63! Ha ha

My friends from the boys school! We call ourselves "the corner girls" because we all hang out on the corner waiting for the kids.
After dinner we went out to our car to find this..

My crazy friends had there kids come and do this! It was so funny! I have the best friends ever!

1st award!

Tuesday Oct 4, 2011 Luke got a "Hot Shot" award at school! Its pretty much student of the month! We were so proud because this was the first month of awards since school started, so he was first in his class! YAY Luke!

Senior Homecoming

I am sad when I write that Brittney went to her last Homecoming dance Saturday Sept 24, 2011. She is growing up!
She was just going to go with friends, but about a week before the dance a friend of hers that graduated asked to take her.
She got ready and then we went up to the park for pictures, half the school was there!

Hawaiian Day

It was Hawaiian day at school and Luke wanted to wear something Hawaiian. Luckily we had a old shirt that was Kyle's that fit him. He was so excited and proud to wear it! I love how excited he gets about things like this!

Luke's 7th Birthday continued

I had to do Luke's Birthday in 2 parts because for some weird reason when you make post to long with lots of pictures this blog site starts to go all crazy!

Sunday Sept 18, 2011
We celebrated September birthdays at my parents house. We do this once a month and the Birthday people get to pick the dinner, dessert and get the special "Red Plate". This is a HUGE deal to the kids! We celebrated Spencer (nephew 16) and Luke's. They agreed on tacos for dinner, the yummy chocolate cake (my mom has been making this cake for years and we all love it) and homemade ice cream with home made hot fudge! (the good cake was a little slanted due to my mom using a different brand of shortening, so it was sliding, still tasted good)

Luke got money from most everyone (he loves money), my sister bought him X-Box live for a year, he was happy about that one and my nephew made him a car out of cardboard. He worked very hard on this car, he painted it, put Luke's hockey number on it, made pedals and a steering wheel. He sent Luke on a scavenger hunt to find it! It was really cute, he was so excited to give it to Luke.
Luke loved it! He played with it a lot at home and was very protective of it and didn't want Blake to touch it!

Needless to say Luke had a fabulous 7th Birthday!!!

Luke turns 7! - Part 1

Of course like any other 7 year old Luke has been counting down the days until his Birthday! He was so excited!
I woke him up singing "Happy Birthday" to him, which put a huge smile on his face! I told him to get up because there was a present downstairs for him. He ran down to see a new bike.

He wanted to open his other gifts too (G doesnt mind not getting to see them open their presents, he thinks it is mean to make them wait all day until he gets home).

We had gotten him a video game he wanted (NHL 2012) and a Neff t-shirt (a popular brand right now). We don't give much for birthdays our gift to our kids is their parties.
We went and picked up donuts for him to bring to school to share with his class.
After school he was excited to go out and ride his new bike!

Of course Blake had to go out and use his lawn mower

We went to dinner at Johnny Rockets, it was his choice, he was so excited to have them sing to him, but we got a bum deal waitress who we told 3 times it was his birthday, and she still managed to forget. It was so sad to see his little face after I went up and talked to her, her response was "I realize it is a big bummer we didn't sing, but I took 20% off your bill" my response to that was "he is 7 and doesn't understand 20%".
That night was back to school night at the boys school, so G and I had to get out of there to get to the school on time. Brittney brought the boys home and got them all ready for bed so when we got home we could have birthday cake (I made him a cake of his choice) and sing. At that point he had forgotten all about not being sung to at Johnny Rockets.

He was so happy!! And even happier that his Birthday didn't end that day. He still had an entire weekend to celebrate!

Saturday Sept 17, 2011
We celebrated again at Wild Kingdom! Luke loves his parties there and so do we, no fuss, we just bring a cake and they do everything! The kids can run, jump, yell, flip etc. Its fun for all ages! He gets to invite as many kids as he wants so everyone is happy!
This year they started something new by having the Birthday child dress up like a King! He was embarrassed but sure did look cute, he only had to wear down the hall to the first bounce room.
